Nutritional Values (1)


Under this series, we shall be discussing about the health importance of some common foods and fruits which we sometimes count as irrelevant.
We shall be discussing about nut today.
A nut is a form of hard shelled fruit that grows on trees and in bushes.
It is usually with a separable rind or shell and interior kernel. There are various examples of nut which include;
Almond: a drupaceous fruit of a small tree from the rose family(Prunus dulcis) with flowers and young fruits resembling that of the peach. It is noted because of the sweet flavour it produces.
Cashew; a fruit of an american tree of the anacardiaceae family. It is grown for its phenolic oil, a gum from it's stem and it's edible kernel of it's nut.
Peanuts; a form of edible nut with thin shell that grows underground. It is of the legume family arachis hypogea and has about 2 to 3 oily edible seeds.
Nutritional values of nuts include;
They are high source of protein which helps in cells and tissue growth. Due to this, they can be used to stabilize the balance diet acting as a source of protein.
They have been found out to assist in maintaining a healthy and well functioning heart.
They have also been to decrease the risk of getting certain kinds of illness which includes;
Cardio vascular disease
Diabetes which is as a result of low or no insulin in the body.
Obesity which is excessive size or rather fats in the body and many others.
With all these said, I hope your next meal will include nuts.
