News circulating around is that the notorious bird flu is now back. The Avian Influenza Virus
has been reported to be circulating around the world. Presently in Nigeria, about half of the federation's state (about 18) are already battling with the outbreak.
This time around, cats and dogs are now victims of the disease. Weird reports of these animals contacting the disease are now reported all over the world unlike before. Cats now transmit H5N1 amidst themselves.
To prevent yourself and your loved ones from contacting this disease, the following measures should be taken:
- Wash your hands thoroughly after handling birds and poultry products like eggs.
- Desist from the sale and eating of dead birds.
- When you come across a large number of dead birds, report immediately to your health workers.
- Report immediately to the hospital if you feel feverish after handling poultry animals.
- Pets owners should stop giving dead poultry products to their animals as dogs and cats are now susceptible to the disease.
