It is certain
that the presidential election is holding tomorrow and not February 14 as publicized
earlier. Security agents are also ready for this as they have started deploying
their men to the streets and areas considered as flashpoints.
In Lagos, over
36,000 security agents have been deployed to be involved in the election. It was
also gathered that 500 patrol vehicles, about 100 motorcycles, three Black Maria
trucks, and about three Armoured Carriers. Also five gunboats will man the
waters and about two helicopters will be used for aerial surveillance.
In Abuja, six
Deputy Inspectors General of Police have been redeployed. Journalist and election observers can be seen
in the INEC headquarters to collect their accreditation materials. Some journalists
have expressed their fears as their accreditation materials are not ready and
this may affect their work tomorrow. The INEC management are also holding a
meeting today with the authorities of NYSC. Major Checkpoints in the city are
also heavily guarded.
